What does it cost to board a horse at the Presidio Riding Club?
The monthly board costs $750 - $850. This cost includes: private stall, daily turn
out, 2 flakes of hay per day, blanketing, and AM and PM feed.
Our on-site caretaker will feed horses twice a day in private matted stalls
a choice of Orchard grass, alfalfa, or teff, distribute your grain, blanket,
turn in and out, as well as maintain stalls and paddocks.
Facilities
Members have access to a large outdoor arena. All horses have private stalls at night and group turnout in paddocks during
the day. Private turnout is not available. Although the Presidio Riding Club is not a show or training barn, members are allowed to bring their own instructors in for training and lessons.
What kind of horse does well at the Presidio Riding Club?
Almost any horse would benefit from being at the PRC, but we find
that horses that are well socialized to other horses do best.
Horses must have basic ground manners and be safe for the members
to handle. Horses should be comfortable being in a same-sex herd.
The Presidio Riding Club has many visitors since it is located in a National Park.
The horses are often petted and, although it is discouraged,
sometimes visitors feed treats to the horses, so horses boarded
should be used to people. The Presidio Riding Club does not allow stallions,
pregnant mares, or horses under the age of 5 in the herd. Horses
are introduced into the herd over a period of time using a staged
process to reduce possibilities for injuries. There are no
specific breed restrictions.
Trail riding
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) trail riding opportunities are varied, spectacular and
scenic. There are miles and miles of trail available with views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the coast. Trails are accessible directly from the property, with some trails featuring direct beach access.
What is expected of boarders?
Our members make a commitment of time and energy to the care of
their horse and to participate in Presidio Riding Club activities, including:
- Basic horse care: Regular grooming, hoof care, exercise.
- 8 monthly workdays per year (which take place the second Saturday of every month).
- 4 hours volunteering a month to help run the co-op and help run public programs.

membership@presidioridingclub.com. The Presidio Riding Club maintains a waitlist to board. The NPS limits boarding to 13
horses, so new boarders are allowed as spaces open up.
